I am so glad that this "Wilber Webb" has finally been brought to light, for the person he really is.
Some years ago, i was kicked out of this meetup for daring to respond to some personal insults he made towards me. At the time, i thought that he specifically targeted me and went away very hurt by the whole experience. But now i can see that he is an "all round" vile person. I think the best thing is to boycott his meetup and tell as many people as will listen to do the same too.

Hmm...As an English guy, I'd be more inclined to arrange a date - or at least "meeting up" - in the event that I actually did meet someone I didn't know at pub and got their number.

It's just that I don't see myself approaching/talking to strangers in public much anytime soon (outside the exceptions Katie Fox mentions in her book on English behaviour, e.g. complaining about a train stopping in a tunnel etc.) - I'm not good at reading signals, and young people seem to do that more at clubs really here (which are far worse IMO since you can't talk).

Even more outgoing mates of mine almost never approach girls at pubs, and usually just stay sitting in a group - as do most people at pubs unless (1) they're crowded enough to be standing room only or (2) they're regulars in a local pub who already know people there.

Hence, I think semi-structured introductions are probably more likely to be my thing. I met my ex-girlfriend of 16 months online, whilst my next date (if it is one - it can be ambiguous here) I met speed-dating.

Hi all,
Just caught this post. As an English guy I just had to say firstly there are hardly any English people who live in London nowadays..I lived there in the 80s and it was awesome, but now I find it an awful place. 30 years of social destruction have seen the once friendly British become a race of miserable lost souls. If you want to meet genuine friendly British folk get into the country and you will find plenty of people wanting to listen to your fascinating accents. As a Northerner I'm biased but I think we are definitely more approachable!

The really funny part is a Brit thinking the have any etiquette or class whatsoever. I have never witnessed such loud and obnoxious behavior than in the evening on the tube with the Queens pawns after a pint or two. The arrogance is amazing as they look down their noses at the same nation that assured they are not speaking German on their little island.

Have since been in contact with numerous people who have been kicked out of the group, we need to get him shutdown, so that there can be a real expat group on there, the size of his attracts anyone new, so hard to while he exists

My pet peeve is the American use of "bring" even when the meaning is "take". E.g. It's OK to say "bring an umbrella with you" when you are the end point of the journey the person you are talking to is about to make, but if you are at the starting point, you should really be saying "take". Also, "Hey are you leaving? Will you bring me to the tube station?" is just plain wrong and uneducated.
